A new and as yet unannounced compact Dolby Atmos soundbar from Sennheiser has been leaked on the company’s website, which seems to indicate that a launch is just around the corner. Called the Sennheiser Ambeo Mini, it’s made for big 3D sound, but feels much smaller than other Sennheiser soundbars.
The website says the soundbar will deliver “the world’s most immersive sound from one compact device”, and while the website lacks in-depth technical information on the number of speakers and other specifications, there are still plenty of details – including confirmation that it will support both Dolby Atmos, as well as DTS:X, self-calibration technology, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for music streaming. In terms of features, it seems ready to compete with the best soundbars.
All we know about its sonic capabilities, aside from supporting 3D audio formats, is that it will feature “high-end full-range drivers” and “built-in 4-inch dual subwoofers.” So it’s clearly designed as an all-in-one system for smaller TVs, much like the Sonos Beam 2 Plus if you want to add more bass.
The photo of the Ambeo Sub is also useful as the leak does not reveal the dimensions of the smaller soundbar at all, but we can make an estimate by comparing it to the Sub for which Down know the size.
Despite the power of comparing sizes in Photoshop and then doing some math, I think the Ambeo Mini will be around 28 inches wide, making it slightly wider than the 25.6-inch Sonos Beam, which is definitely a soundbar to beat in this category.
With support for Bluetooth and DTS:X audio – two things Sonos doesn’t have – and the overall phenomenal performance of the Ambeo soundbar, we expect it to be a big winner and could knock the Beam out of its place in front of your TV. Hopefully, it also includes a 4K HDR HDMI adapter, which Sonos also doesn’t have, but the site doesn’t give any indication of that.
The Ambeo Mini appears to have a fabric cover, based on the photos (and Sennheiser’s general penchant for such things in soundbars), and a gray top. It just seems to have disappeared – it doesn’t, and that’s fine for home theater equipment.
Compact soundbars are increasingly popular as people who have bought premium TVs in the last few years – especially the best OLED TVs – have found that they struggle to get beefy sound, but not everyone wants a huge, bulky soundbar with elite surround sound. Some people just want something with a tighter, more expansive sound that doesn’t overwhelm their TV, and Sennheiser seems ready to help.
Of course, we don’t have any pricing information or a release date for the Sennheiser Ambeo Mini – Sennheiser has declined to comment or provide any information on the soundbar.
