Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR was announced during the Ubisoft Forward event for Meta Quest. The release date has not yet been revealed.
A new CGI trailer shows what to expect from Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR as it brings back fan favorites like Ezio Auditore, Kassandra, and Connor. However, unlike other Assassin’s Creed titles, this new one is completely first-person, which is a new frontier for the series.
The trailer shows what it would be like to jump on an enemy from a scaffold and sneak around ancient Greece. It certainly looks like an ambitious VR title, and the Assassin’s Creed series certainly has a lot of potential for the medium as one of the best VR games out there, so this is one upcoming game to watch out for if you’re a fan of the long series.
Excitingly, you’ll be able to play this title on the cheaper Meta Quest 2 VR headsets and the upcoming Meta Quest 3 standalone VR headsets, like some of the best VR headsets out there. Provided Ubisoft can do it, it could be a killer app for the platform.
It’s an exciting mix of eras that the development team has focused on. The pre-rendered footage features Connor, the main character Assassin’s Creed 3 which was released in 2012, as well as Kassandra from 2018 Assassin’s Creed Odysseyas well as fan favorite Ezio Auditore, who had his own trilogy from 2009-2011. A short clip shows a first-person look at Connor’s tomahawk in action and a sword fight in ancient Greece before returning to reality.
But we can’t really outrun ourselves. That’s because everything was CGI with no in-game footage to speak of. As we get closer to launch, which will likely be later in 2024, let’s hope the title looks and performs as well as some of Oculus Quest 2’s best games.
