In an upcoming update, Google Meet will introduce a new feature that allows users to stream and share any video content over the internet.
The tool provides “live sharing” integration with platforms such as YouTube and Spotify, and mobile games such as UNO! Mobile.
This means you can stream YouTube videos with your friends on Google Meet or play various mobile games without interrupting your interaction, similar to Apple SharePlay.
How can I use this feature?
Users can enable the new streaming feature by going to the newly introduced “Activities” tab.
Users can then start sharing by clicking on the appropriate icon, for example Spotify.
This update will roll out in August 2022 for mobile and tablet devices, and later for other devices.
Some integrations are limited, however Spotify integration, for example, is only available to premium users.
What else is on the cards?
The message comes as the search giant fully reconnects Google Meet with a more consumer-oriented Duo offeringfirst released in 2016.
However, the connection will not only lead to more social features as Google is also introducing additional meeting features which will allow you to start an instant video call with the entire research group or connect with your colleagues at a recurring scheduled time.
Before joining the meeting, you’ll have the option to change background or apply visual effects, and during the meeting, users will also be able to use meeting chat and captions for more ways to participate.
