Tracking down a particularly important message or information in a Microsoft Teams chat should soon be easier than ever with a new update.
The video conferencing platform is working on an improved dashboard view that it says can help users quickly identify or find the content they are looking for.
The launch could mean the end of the annoying Ctrl + F search, tracking reams of text to find a specific chat that happened days or even weeks ago.
Microsoft Teams Chat
In his post on official Microsoft 365 roadmap (opens in a new tab)the new “Dashboard for Chat” feature is described as “providing users with more information and making it easier for them to find content shared in the chat.”
There’s no concrete information on how exactly it will work, and the update is still listed as “in development”, but our guess is that it will use the existing chat details page to quickly track keywords or people.
The expected rollout date for the update is April 2023, meaning users shouldn’t have to wait too long. iOS and Android mobile users will be the first to experience the new tool, and we expect desktop and Mac users won’t be too far behind.
The update is the latest addition to Microsoft Teams as the company strives to keep the platform intuitive and helpful for users around the world.
It also recently announced that it will bring Teams chat to Microsoft Outlook to enable a meeting-like approach in an email client.
These new “Outlook Meetings” will allow attendees to send a quick message or view a chat without having to open Microsoft Teams separately, meaning users won’t have to switch between apps.
Another new app means Microsoft Teams users will soon be able to integrate their calendars with Outlook, which syncs with the entire Office 365 suite to help users manage time and determine availability for online meetings.
