The original story follows.
Amazon Studios has built a reputation for creating and/or adapting imaginative superhero designs – and Power could be another hit with a similar position for its streaming platform.
Starring Toni Collette (Knives outside, Hereditary), Auli’i Cravalho (Moana) and Toheeb Jimoh (Ted Lasso Season 3), Prime Video’s upcoming thriller series aims to shock viewers with a global story based on gender balance and one superpower.
Based on Naomi Alderman’s best-selling novel of the same name, Power takes place in a world similar to ours. But one fateful day, teenage girls around the world suddenly develop the ability to electrocute people. This nature-based power is hereditary, there is no “cure” for it, and most importantly, the holders can awaken the same power in their elderly mothers, sisters, cousins and grandmothers.
Not surprisingly, the emergence of this superpower leads to a complete reversal of the gender-based balance of power in the world. Sparks of revolution are soon ignited, and men are seen as the inferior sex of humanity. The results that follow will be as dramatic, tense and electrifying as you can imagine.

Given the emergence of this superpower around the world, Power will be global. Viewers should therefore expect the series to be set in multiple countries, including the US, UK, Nigeria, Eastern Europe and beyond.
Power was developed for the Amazon streamer by Alderman herself, with a 10-episode first season greenlit for one of the world’s top streaming services in February 2019. Raelle Tucker (Pure blood, Jessica Jones) serves as showrunner and joins Alderman, Jane Featherstone (Chernobyl) and Reed Morano (Billions) on the show’s executive producer team.
Originally Leslie Mann (this is 40, The Croods: A New Era) was to play the lead role in the series. However, due to scheduling conflicts, Mann resigned in April 2021 and Collette replaced her in August of that year.
Collette, Cravalho and Jimoh are joined by great actors including John Leguizamo (Violent night, Ice Age), Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan), Ria Zmitrovich (Mr. Selfridge), Rob Delaney (School of Good and Evil) and Alice Eve (Star Trek Into the darkness).
A project that could become one of Prime Video’s best shows if it resonates with critics and regular TV fans comes from SISTER, a production company that played a significant role in the development Chernobylone of the best HBO Max shows ever made.
Power there’s no official release date yet, but it’s coming to Prime Video in March. Stay tuned to TechRadar for more details on its launch as we get it.
