Originally announced at Summer Games Fest, Ubisoft’s new deep game Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown highlights the abilities and bravery of the new hero.
In an old-school twist, the latest in a long-running action-platformer series takes things back to the 2D plain and increases the aggression and speed of combat tenfold. The new prince has no chill, as evidenced by the brutal boss-like showdown shown in the extended reveal. We’ll likely see more on this upcoming game, which will debut on January 18, 2024.
The most exciting thing about Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is Metroidvania approach to level design. It looks really exciting and should be a great time when it comes out early next year.
The Prince of Persia series has not returned to the old-school 2D formula for many years, which makes it Lost crown stand out especially. The last time this perspective was used with Prince of Persia: The Fallen King which debuted on the Nintendo DS in 2008. It’s been over 10 years now, and even longer if you count only the mainline entries, which it wasn’t.
The series rose to fame in the late 1980s for its excellent animations, immersive world, and challenging gameplay, and it looks like the upcoming title is living up to that legacy well. The series went into 3D with the popular Sands of Time trilogy, a trend that continued until its 2008 reboot and continued through many subsequent sequels. Now, an old school approach with today’s technology and direction is set to breathe new life into the saga.
